Merian Plate No.5 Cyclamen Flore Purpurea

During Maria Sibylla Merian's lifetime (1647-1717), she studied, illustrated and published a number of works on the process of metamorphosis. 

The life and almost magic transformational process from catepillar to butterfly kept her documenting and travelling as far as South America, which was an exceptional feat for a woman at this time.

The exceptionally beautiful prints show a delicacy in her drawings which are rich in detail.

Printed with Japanese archival ink on a matte Hahnemühle paper in our own studio in rural Copenhagen, Denmark.
